Program for high school students. This GSNS program is a school choice program available to students with special needs who attend Georgia public schools that receive services from an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

This scholarship for students with special needs usually ranges between $ 2,500 and $ 13,500. The GSNS Awards Scholarship recipients over $ 6,000 on average. Eligibility and scholarship amounts are determined by the records received from local school districts.
Eligibility for scholarships for special needs
To qualify recently for the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program for the next school year, a student must meet ALL of the following requirements:
# Student Eligibility Criteria 1 – A student must have a parent/guardian who currently lives in Georgia and has been a resident for at least one calendar year.
#. Student eligibility criteria 2 – A student enrolled and completed the 2018-2019 school year in a Georgia public school in grades kindergarten through twelfth.
#. Eligibility Criteria 3 – A school district reported that a student attended a public school in Georgia during mandatory student counts conducted in October 2018 and March 2019.
#. Student eligibility criteria 4 – A student does not need to have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) throughout the school year to qualify for the GSNS Program. A student must have received special education services at some time during the 2018-2019 school year through an IEP. A student must be reported by one or more school districts either in the October 2018 or March 2019 counts or in the student’s final record as a student receiving special education services at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.
If a student meets the eligibility criteria for the GSNS Program, a parent/guardian has the right to request a
transfer from the current public school of a student to:
1. Another public school within your district of residence; or
2. Another public school district outside of your district of residence; or
3. One of the three state schools for the blind or deaf; or
4. A private school authorized to participate in the GSNS program. Funds received through the GSNS program.
It can only be used to pay tuition and fees at a private school authorized by the State Board of Education to participate in the program.

What is the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program?
The Senate Bill 10 became law on May 18, 2007, created the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship
Program. Allows students eligible for special needs to transfer to another public school, public school system, state school, or participating private school.

Does a parent/guardian have to go through “due process” to receive a scholarship through the GSNS Program?
No. A student is eligible for the GSNS Program as long as it meets the eligibility criteria established by law.
Does a parent/guardian have to prove that the public school did not provide adequate services for their child?
This test is not required to participate in the GSNS program. A student is eligible for the GSNS Program as long as it meets the eligibility criteria established by law.
